A discovery: the Pulsatile Red Reflex (PRR)
For over a century the red reflex has been part of every eye examination, yet until now it was regarded as a static finding. Abdulkadir Oduncu, MD was the first to describe that this reflex carries a pulsatile component synchronized with the heartbeat, and named this phenomenon the Pulsatile Red Reflex (PRR), introducing it to the scientific literature. The finding is documented by an abstract accepted for presentation at the ESCRS 2026 Congress (PP19.017) and by a patent application; a detailed scientific paper is in the publication process.
